It would be a disappointment to finally find the oriental rug you have been wanting for so long, to see it be ruined from a lack of a few simple oriental rug cleaning and care tips. Your rug will deteriorate over time if you don't practice these simple steps.

Keeping your rug up to date is much like keeping your car conditioned properly. The better you take care of it, the longer it will last. Save yourself money by following these simple steps instead of paying for repairs and permanent stains.

Oriental Rug Cleaning and Care - The things to watch out for

The sun is going to ruin your rug if you leave it in direct sunlight. To prevent this do your best to put your oriental rug in areas where there isn't as much sunlight or cover windows that show too much sunlight onto your rug. You can also flip your rug around so that one side isn't soaking in all the sun all the time. This will help your rugs colors last longer.

Uneven wear is another danger to your oriental rug. Uneven wear happens when one part of the rug is walked more than another part of the rug. This happens in high trafficked areas of a room. Just like the sun care, flip the rug around from time to time. Also consider using a pad underneath the rug to hold it in place so that the walking on the rug won't cause it to slip up as much.

Simply vacuuming a rug makes it last longer. Dirt wears on a rug over time. The less dirt, the longer you will have your oriental rug. But you have to know how to vacuum a rug. Don't just vacuum the top side, but also the bottom side of the rug. Why? Because most of the dirt is on the bottom of the rug. Getting out the dirt from both sides will offer more quality care for your rug.

Although vacuuming helps your rug, if you do it wrong, you will end up ruining it. Vacuum with a hose extention if you have one since it's easier on the rug and nothing will get caught in the vacuum brushes This happens to fringe on the ends of rugs all the time causing a lot of issues.

Using a rug pad can also extend the life of a rug. It might not be considered an absolute necessity but will help greatly. A pad can extend the life of the rug and once it is in place it does not really take any extra maintenance.
